Niue Tide Guage Launch 2015

A twenty- year plan finally materialized for the remote Pacific atoll of Niue, when its state of the art tidal gauge and positioning infrastructure was officially launched in Alofi, on 5 November.

This impressive structure will provide critical weather and sea level information not only for the country known as “the Rock” but the Pacific region as well.

In an effort to ensure the safety of lives at sea, 20 emergency 'grab bags' were presented by the European Union Ambassador for the Pacific to small-scale fishers and boat owners in Niue.

A 10-year roadmap to improve all forms of energy security and access in Niue was launched in Alofi during a governing body meeting for Pacific Community (SPC) officials.

History in the making as representatives from the Pacific Community's (SPC) 26 member countries and territories join development partners in Niue "The Rock of Polynesia" for the organisation's governing body meeting.

SPC Director-General, Dr Colin Tukuitonga explains what Pacific Community's governing body is and its importance for the organisation.

SPC will organise a High Level Dialogue on Youth during the Pacific Conference in Niue.

Raising the Pacific perspective ahead of the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction #WCDRR. The Secretariat of the Pacific Community’s Director-General, Dr Colin Tukuitonga, speaks from his homeland of Niue, a remote Pacific Island highly vulnerable to natural disasters. The Pacific is the first region in the world to develop a regional strategy that integrates climate change and disaster risk management.
